Gavin Knight

Studied theory of music and vocal composition under the late Professor Vernon Griffiths and through Royal Schools of Music. He went on to study bass guitar under Simon Laracy then jazz performance on upright bass under Nick Tipping at Massey University.

Gavin is a member of Wellington jazz combo Casablanca. Previously, he has played trombone in big-band and brass band contexts. Also, as a recording engineer, he produced ‘Altar’ (Vatic), ‘Rise up Singing’ (Wellington Girls College), and was one of the recording engineers for ‘Grrreat Stuff’ (Vaughn Roberts Big Band), which won the 2006 New Zealand Music Award (Tui) for Best Jazz Album. In 2010, he performed upright bass on the "Its a Wrap 3" Christmas album.

In 2012, Gavin leads and plays trombone in the Aspire Big Band and he will facilitate the Advanced Musicianship course later in the year.
