About Aspire

Who are we?

Aspire is a venture, originated in 2006 by members of the Tawa Corps of the Salvation Army, which has a long tradition of serving the community and of musical performance.

All Aspire staff are volunteers. All resources used by Aspire are either donated or loaned. This enables us to avoid having to charge fees.

Aspire has grown since its inception, and in December 2010 became a registered charitable Trust. (Click here to see our registration certificate.)

Four of Aspire's staff are its trustees: Ruthanne Kennedy, Phil Daly, Alan Hutson and Gavin Knight.

What is Aspire's mission?

Aspire’s Mission is to bring fulfillment to people’s lives, serving the community through providing training and opportunities in live group musical performance.

We do this in two ways:

Education - Rather than teach students to play an instrument, as private music teachers do, we take students who already have some skills in playing an instrument or singing, and develop their skills in live group performance.

Playing music and making friends with fellow musicians - Whether you are a learner or a competent musician, we can offer the opportunity to perform music in a band of musicians with a similar skill level.
